Seeking calmer, more balanced skin – CBD to the rescue

Though you may be very familiar with CBD use and benefits in products such as gummies, vitamins or oils to help with anxiety, pain and sleep, did you know that CBD could also be infused into skincare products and used to benefit your skin’s natural functions? Broadly speaking, here’s how it works –

Endocannabinoid receptors CB1 & C2 within the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) are present in many of your bodies’ major organs including its largest organ – the skin. Your skin produces natural endocannabinoids that help regulate its “cannabinoid tone.” Normal production of these endocannabinoids provides the skin with healthy, balanced oil production and an intact barrier against germs and inflammation. But can hemp-derived CBD aid in treating skin when the cannabinoid tone is not optimally balanced?

Short answer: yes! When CBD is applied topically to your skin, it enters your system differently than when consumed orally. Topical CBD doesn’t get absorbed into the bloodstream; instead, it bonds to the skin’s CB1 & CB2 receptors and gradually builds up over time on the skin's surface, working with your own ECS and helping to restore the skin’s natural balance, clarity and defensive barrier.

Calm

Studies suggest that CBD interacts with receptors that will help your skin’s internal health and external appearance. CBD offers anti-microbial properties that can help clear skin and may relieve itching and alleviate redness, rosacea, and psoriasis.

Balance

CBD balances the skin by helping regulate sebum levels. Sebum is the oil your skin produces to moisturize and protect it, creating a waterproof barrier. When your skin produces too much sebum, it may result in acne and blemishes. When you produce too little sebum, the skin becomes susceptible to dryness and irritation. A healthy skin balance is a prerequisite for a protective and healthy skin barrier.

Defend

The skin is a protective barrier against environmental stressors that can cause cell damage, chronic inflammation and fine lines and wrinkles. CBD is a potent natural antioxidant that defends the skin from daily exposure to outside elements that can cause cell damage and premature aging.
